Synopsis

Two families, the abolition of slavery in the North, the Stonemans and Southern landowners the Camerons, intertwine in director D. W. Griffith’s controversial Civil War epic. When the colonel Confederate Ben Cameron is caught in the battle, the nurse Elsie Stoneman petitions for his pardon. In the Reconstruction-era South Carolina, Cameron founds the Ku Klux Klan, the struggle Elsie deputy father and his African-American protégé, Silas Lynch.
